KOTA KINABALU: The Presidential Council of Pakatan Harapan has not engaged in formal discussions about potential alliances with other parties in preparation for the forthcoming Sabah state election.
Datuk Ewon Benedick, President of the United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (UPKO), emphasised that PH Sabah should be granted autonomy to decide on partnerships and the nature of cooperation with any party, reflecting the current political landscape.
“There is no conclusive agreement on PH’s collaboration with any party at this moment as we approach the Sabah state election,” said Ewon in a media statement after chairing the UPKO Supreme Council Meeting here today.
He highlighted the importance of PH Sabah selecting allies who align with their objectives, particularly in advocating for the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), which includes demands for one-third of the seats in the Dewan Rakyat and a 40 percent share of revenue.
This statement comes in response to remarks made by BN Chairman/Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, indicating that BN and PH have finalised their cooperation for the upcoming Sabah state election anticipated next year.
