KOTA BELUD: Datuk Ewon Benedick, the Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives, and Kadamaian Assemblyman, is currently on a week-long vacation but has chosen to forgo his time off for the sake of the Kadamaian community.
“I did request a week of leave from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to attend to some family matters that have been pending for over a year.
“However, Kadamaian is also my family, and I view today’s responsibilities as part of that family commitment,” he said during his speech at the Community Engagement Program organized by the Student Volunteer Foundation (YSS) under the Ministry of National Unity in Kg Tengkurus, here, recently.
Earlier, he officiated the Kadazandusun Language Carnival at the Kadamaian Square Hall in Taginambur, followed by a visit to the construction of the Tamu Desa in Kg Gaur, and inspected the upgrading works on Jalan Tengkurus – Lahanas and Jalan Tambulaung – Podos.
He also took the time to have breakfast with the community at Kg Tamu Darat.
Ewon believes that all initiatives related to the residents of Kadamaian are part of his family duties.
“Leadership must start at home, and my home is the area (DUN Kadamaian) that has entrusted me with this mandate. That’s why I have postponed my personal matters today to be with the Kadamaian family,” he explained.
Regarding the program organized by the Student Volunteer Foundation, Ewon, who is also Penampang MP, expressed his hope that this initiative would foster integration, unity, and togetherness among Malaysia’s diverse population through the participation of students with the community.
“I hope that the students involved in this program will find inspiration and motivation from their experiences in the rural village to contribute positively to the people and the nation.
“I also appreciate the support from their host families and the Committee,” he said.
