PENAMPANG: UPKO President Datuk Ewon Benedick has firmly articulated the party’s stance on the necessity of restoring the spirit of representation in the Parliament by allocating no less than one-third of the seats to Sabah and Sarawak.
“UPKO demands the reinstatement of the spirit of representation in the Dewan Rakyat, ensuring that at least one-third of the seats are designated for Sabah and Sarawak.
“This will remain a steadfast and official position of UPKO at all times,” he said.
Ewon made these remarks during his keynote address at the UPKO National Convention held at the Sabah Cultural Centre here today.
He also proposed a thorough review of all amendments to the Federal Constitution and the establishment of federal bills that have impacted Sabah but were not approved by the State Assembly.
“UPKO urges the Sabah State Assembly to reassess all amendments to the Federal Constitution and the Federal Bills that have been enacted and affect Sabah but have not received approval from the State Assembly,” he added.
According to Ewon, this position will be advocated across all permissible platforms for the party, including cabinet meetings, parliamentary sessions, and state assembly discussions, as well as legislative platforms.
“The founding principles of our party compel us to adhere to principled leadership and a commitment to providing focused, courageous, and sincere service. We uphold the truth, challenge falsehoods, and pursue what is just.
“In line with this objective, we will continue to take consistent and firm stances on matters related to the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) and the Federal Constitution,” he said.
