Born on November 22, 1958, in Johor Bahru, Sultan Ibrahim is the eldest son of Sultan Iskandar and Enche’ Besar Hajah Khalsom. His diverse background includes education in Malaysia and Australia, and extensive military training in the United States. He ascended to the throne as the Sultan of Johor on January 23, 2010, following his father’s passing.

The Installation of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, a time-honoured tradition since 1957, is more than a ceremony — it is a cornerstone of Malaysia’s democratic life. Having taken the oath and signed the instrument of office as the 17th King on January 31, 2024, the July 20th ceremony marked Sultan Ibrahim’s official installation.
The event was a vibrant blend of Malaysia’s rich cultural heritage and modernity, showcasing the nation’s unity and diversity. The ceremony featured traditional performances, a royal procession, and the symbolic presentation of the royal regalia. The military ceremony, serving as a prelude, symbolized the pledge of loyalty of the national defense forces to the King. His Majesty’s speech emphasized his commitment to justice, inclusivity, and the well-being of all Malaysians.

The celebrations began with the Yasin Recital and “Doa Selamat” at Masjid Negara on July 18, followed by a Special Friday Sermon and Prayers the next day. The installation ceremony was conducted with strict adherence to protocol, each element laden with symbolism.
