UMNO has the right to contest in Sabah because UMNO Sabah is led by local people, says Bung Moktar

PAPAR: Sabah UMNO chief Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin criticised the remarks made by STAR President Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan, who opposed the party from the Peninsula attempting to contest parliamentary seats in Sabah.

Bung emphasised that UMNO, which has been established in Sabah for 33 years, is led by local people, including himself, who are also natives of this state.

“Yesterday, STAR stated that UMNO, a Malayan (Peninsula) party, should not contest in the Sabah Parliament because UMNO already has many seats in Malaya. Don’t try to take parliamentary seats in Sabah again.

“Who is Jeffrey? Who is STAR? He talks nonsense; he only won one parliamentary seat, and his mouth is full of nonsense.

In 2003, Jeffrey applied and was accepted as a member of UMNO, but the UMNO Supreme Council later revoked his membership.

The Lamag Assemblyman said this in his speech at the opening of the UMNO Kimanis Division Meeting at the SMK Bongawan here on Sunday.

Also present were the UMNO President and Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi; the Kimanis UMNO Division Chief and Deputy Foreign Minister, Datuk Mohamad Alamin; and Datuk Jamal Nerubi, the UMNO Sabah Representative.

Meanwhile, Bung Moktar reminded UMNO Sabah members not to be influenced by instigations from other parties against UMNO.

“Let us not be deceived by instigations and hatred from our enemies. In Sabah, we try to be good; we are good with everyone, with all parties,” he said.
