KOTA KINABALU: Sabah UMNO liaison committee chairman Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin has never been the Chief Minister of Sabah but has been used as a benchmark by the Chairman of Gerakan Kuasa Rakyat Malaysia (G57), Datuk Zulkarnain Mahdar, in his statement on Tuesday.
Sabah UMNO Election Director, Jeffrey Nor Mohamed, said that many people in the state of Sabah agree that what is happening now is one of the effects of the 30-year rule of the Barisan Nasional (BN).
He said many UMNO leaders were now in the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) and the Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (PGRS), with only 5 percent remaining in UMNO Sabah, while now almost 95 percent of UMNO Sabah leaders are among the new leaders.
“Do we want to blame the party or the leaders who were in UMNO Sabah at that time? InsyaAllah, we (UMNO Sabah) want to prove that we can change it for the good of the people of Sabah, and with all the ‘doctrines’ that were implemented during that era, which were identified to have damaged our political mindset in Sabah, we will change it.
“The’recovering method for short period and long period’ to address basic infrastructure problems has not been clearly seen being done by the Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.
“There have been many announcements, but there is still no solution. For example, the two Urgent Water Supply Scheme (UWSS) projects at the Telibong I and II Water Treatment Plants have not given confidence to the people in solving the critical water problem in Sabah,” he said in a statement here today.
Jeffrey Nor, the Putatan UMNO chief, also said that the level of completion of the PAN BORNEO Road project is still unsatisfactory, causing the people of Sabah to bear the consequences after waiting for a very long time for its completion.
“I do not understand which information Zulkarnain used to state that GRS is capable of winning in style in the upcoming Sabah state election.
“The proverb states, “Never lose your humility while you grow.’ There is no need to be arrogant and make statements belittling others; we just wait for the Sabah state election.
“The issue of high investment is a good announcement… But not a single proposal has ever stated how we can boost ‘Domestic Economics’ in the country. The government needs to ensure that the prices of’security food’ items are at reasonable levels,” explained Jeffrey Nor.
According to him, the people of Sabah seem to be living in fear due to the uncontrolled prices of goods at the moment, which in turn reduces the purchasing power among the people in Sabah and causes those in rural areas to bear the brunt of the price hikes.
