KUALA LUMPUR: The Federal Unity Government is urged to review the suitability of the targeted policy on petrol and diesel prices in Sabah.
Putatan Member of Parliament Datuk Ir Shahelmey Yahya said this is because four-wheeled vehicles are a necessity for the people of Sabah due to the hilly terrain and many roads that are still in poor condition.
“Four-wheeled vehicles are needed for the movement of the people of Sabah, where they are used to transport commodities, agricultural products, daily necessities, and as daily vehicles to send children to school and work, especially in rural and inland areas of Sabah,” he said.
Ir Shahelmey, who is also the State Minister of Works in Sabah, said this in his speech during a debate session in Parliament today.
In this regard, he said the government should consider that any increase in diesel and petrol prices will also increase the cost of living for the people in Sabah.
“Therefore, on the grounds of controlling the cost of living in Sabah, I call for a review of the targeted policy on petrol and diesel prices in Sabah to be in line with the conditions in this state,” he said.
