Authorities urged to take immediate steps to enhance security and surveillance within the KK city – Kanul

KOTA KINABALU: The federal and state authorities are urgently called upon to take immediate actions to enhance security and surveillance within the state capital, as well as in cities and towns with a significant number of illegal immigrants in close proximity.

In making the call, Sabah activist Kanul Gindol emphasised the need for the Chief Minister, who also serves as the chairman of the state security committee comprising both federal and Sabah officers, to convene an emergency meeting.

Kanul said this meeting aims to dispel any doubts regarding the competence of security and public safety measures within the capital.

“With the recent incident involving a female staff member of a private company being mugged by a suspected immigrant, we have witnessed two similar cases in the past few days,” he said in a statement here.

Highlighting the news of an imminent large-scale crackdown on illegal immigrants in the state, Kanul expressed understanding towards the public’s concerns.

“It is not unreasonable for people to speculate that some troublemakers among the immigrants might be venting their frustration and anger on the locals,” said Kanul, a concerned representative of civil society.

Therefore, Kanul stressed the importance of close collaboration and support from the people towards the state leaders in addressing security issues, particularly the persistent challenge posed by the overwhelming presence of illegal immigrants.
