KOTA KINABALU: The Chief of Puteri UMNO Sabah, Ummi Nabilah Datuk Jamal, said the party machinery, especially Puteri UMNO, needs to master social media as one of the campaign strategies in the new norm, particularly in facing the upcoming State Election (PRN).
According to her, the spread of perceptions and propaganda on social media by the opposing party is becoming more widespread, and if left unchecked, it will have a negative impact on UMNO.
“UMNO Puteri cannot lag behind in mastering new media. If they upload provocative, slanderous, and mocking images of UMNO 10 times, we should be 100 times more active in not only countering their false accusations but also actively disseminating the party’s programmes and policies to the community,” she said.
She said this after attending the Media and Tik Tok Course for Zones one, two, and three at Universiti Malaysia Sabah recently.
The course was officiated by the chief of Puteri UMNO Malaysia, Datuk Nurul Amal Fauzi, and closed by the Putatan UMNO chief, Jeffery Mohd Nor Mohamed, who represented the deputy chairman of the Sabah UMNO Liaison Committee, Datuk Seri Panglima Abdul Rahman Dahlan.
According to Ummi Nabilah, who is also the Papar Puteri UMNO chief, UMNO Puteri must master digital and social intelligence, assist the people, channel information on issues and problems they face, especially those related to the need for infrastructure development, to the relevant parties, and disseminate UMNO’s programmes and direction to the community to bring them closer to UMNO.
“Utilise social media to its fullest potential, upload party programmes, issues concerning the people, and the party’s direction, rather than focusing on personal matters, as it does not contribute to the strength of the party,” emphasised Ummi Nabilah.
