KOTA KINABALU: United Kinabalu Progressive Organisation (UPKO) Youth Leader Billy Joe Dominic has asserted that the Dewan Rakyat’s approval of the Malaysian Inland Revenue Board (IRB) Amendment Bill 2023 is evidence of Pakatan Harapan (PH) Sabah’s achievement.
He said the amendment to the IRB bill would allow representatives of Sabah and Sarawak to be appointed as members of the Board of Directors.
“It is one of the demands in Sabah PH’s originating suit against the Federal Government.
“I am happy that finally our efforts and the people of Sabah fighting for the rights of Sabah in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) have shown great results,” he said in a statement today.
Previously, the Sabah PH leadership received various criticisms for their decision to withdraw the originating suit.
“Today it is proven that Sabah PH’s action is not “empty talk” but based on facts and positive and strong developments from the federal government,” he said.
Billy hopes that those who were critical of Sabah PH’s leadership will now look the other way and see the positives.
“Sabah PH succeeded when they could only talk. ‘action talks louder’,” he said.
He also congratulated UPKO President Datuk Ewon Benedick and all Sabah PH leaders for their determination to fight for the rights of the people of Sabah.
“Thank you also to all Sabahans for giving trust and the opportunity to PH to fight for Sabah’s rights,” he added.
Recently, the Dewan Rakyat unanimously approved the LHDN (Amendment) Bill 2023 to allow representatives of the governments of Sabah and Sarawak to be appointed as members of the Board of Directors of the LHDN.
The bill, which was presented by Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan, was debated by 20 Members of Parliament, including Tuaran Member of Parliament Datuk Wilfred Madius Tangau.
