The Consul General of the Republic of Indonesia in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Bapak Rafail Walangitan, said this monumental step not only reshapes the landscape of Indonesia but also presents a range of positive effects that will undoubtedly extend to the beautiful region of Sabah.

“The move of the capital city brings with it a wave of opportunities that stand to benefit Sabah in numerous ways.

“By moving the Indonesian National Capital from Jakarta to the Ibu Kota Nusantar (IKN) in Kalimantan, Kalimantan will become a new gateway for Malaysia-Indonesia cooperation,” he said.

Rafail said this in his speech at the diplomatic reception for the 78th Indonesian Independence Day here last night.

At present, he said the progress of transferring the IN Stage 1 has reached 36 percent.

“It is hoped that the 2024 Republic of Indonesia Independence Day Celebration Ceremony can be held at the IKN.

“As we move forward, let us continue to nurture and expand this relationship,” he added.

Rafail said that by promoting a conducive business environment, streamlining trade processes, and exploring new avenues for cooperation, it can enhance the export-import value between Sabah and Indonesia.

“This, in turn, will contribute to the prosperity and well-being of both regions and their people,” he said.
