KINABATANGAN: Some 33 Heads of Household (KIR) who were affected by the floods at kg Cangkul Buang Sayang Bukit Garam have received assistance from Lamag assemblyman Datuk Seri Panglima Bung Moktar Radin.
Bung, who is also Kinabatangan MP, said that the aid given was in the form of food supplies, including rice, cooking oil, flour, milk, sardines, sugar biscuits, and other necessities.
“Although the flood this time is somewhat under control, it also affects the lives of the people in this area, and in the current situation, we understand the difficulties of the villagers; therefore, with this small assistance, we hope that it can ease their burden,” he said when contacted today.
The assistance under the Ehsan Kasih programme of the People’s Representative Service Centre Office was coordinated in collaboration between the staff of the Kinabatangan Parliamentary Service Centre Office, Lamag State Assembly Office, UMNO Kinabatangan Division, and women, youth, and girls of UMNO Kinabatangan Division who went to the field and then distributed assistance to the recipients in Cangkul Buang Sayang village on Wednesday.
According to Bung, who is also the Kinabatangan UMNO division chief, as soon as he found out that there were several villages and areas affected, his party immediately sent a team to assist the affected flood victims.
“Kinabatangan is quite synonymous with floods, especially in the rainy season, and those who are affected early are the people who live near the Kinabatangan river.
“When it rains continuously, we often ask those who live near the river to be alert and ready, and at the same time, we are also ready to provide the necessary help,” he said.
Bung added that so far there has been no report from the POKB and JPAM authorities that residents affected by the flood have been moved to temporary evacuation centres; however, this situation will continue to be monitored.
