Women and youth entrepreneur program empowering single mothers, youth school leavers to pursue entrepreneurship

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Credit Corporation together with the Sipitang Single Mother Organization, Richgrads Business School and Surin Consultants has successful conducted the Women and Youth Entrepreneur Program.

This is a transformative initiative aimed at empowering women and youth to embark on entrepreneurial journeys. The program is fully sponsored by Sabah Credit Corporation.

Together with Yayasan Usaha Maju, Sabah Credit Corporation participated fully in the program and provided participants with invaluable resources and knowledge, mentorship, guidance and credit facilities to equip them with the skills and confidence to succeed in the business world.

This collaborative initiative aims to empower single mothers, youth, school leavers, and individuals from economically disadvantaged backgrounds by equipping them with the necessary skills and resources to pursue entrepreneurship and create sustainable businesses.

Sabah Credit Corporation is committed to supporting economic growth in the State. It understands the importance of fostering entrepreneurship and empowering marginalized communities. Yayasan Usaha Maju, YUM has successfully helped the target group by working and generating income through business activities in the agricultural, livestock, fishing, buying and selling business, processing, carpentry and other related industries. Currently YUM operates through 23 branches covering seven areas throughout Sabah.

These two statutory bodies are fully owned by the Sabah state government and under the purview of the Sabah State Ministry of Finance. Through this collaboration, Sabah Credit Corporation and Yayasan Usaha Maju are emphasizing their commitment to social responsibility and community development. Combining their expertise and resources, both organizations are committed to growing an ecosystem that promotes entrepreneurship and elevates marginalized groups.

The Women and Youth Entrepreneur Program will serve as a platform to educate, inspire, and support participants in their entrepreneurial journey. By focusing on key target groups such as single mothers, youth, school leavers, and the economically disadvantaged, the program aims to break barriers and provide inclusive opportunities. This is for those who often face challenges accessing resources and credit facilities.

The initiative also provided participants with networking opportunities which can be utilized to expand their business network and open up potential business opportunities. Furthermore, the program also allowed for the exchange of ideas and experiences between participants, fostering a supportive community of entrepreneurs. Through this, participants were able to gain valuable insights and access to resources that would have otherwise been inaccessible. They were also able to build strong relationships with their peers, which can be beneficial in the long run.

The program spanned from 8.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m. and was conducted at the Conference Room, Level 10, Menara UTC, Sabah. There were 150 passionate individuals, including women, youth, and young school leavers, actively engaged in intensive training sessions and practical workshops.

It was launched by YBhg. Datuk Redonah Bahanda, Political Secretary to the Chief Minister of Sabah while Datuk Surinam Sadikun, the Deputy Chairman of Sabah Credit Corporation, graced the closing. In her closing speech, Datuk Surinam highlighted the significance of entrepreneurship in driving economic growth and social development.

She commended the participants for their commitment, perseverance, and passion, urging them to continue their entrepreneurial journey with confidence and resilience. Certificates of Completion were presented to all participants, acknowledging their active participation and successful completion of the Women and Youth Entrepreneur Program.
