Montfort’s Annual Open House Bazaar Returns after Pandemic

 
KOTA KINABALU: Montfort Youth Training Centre (MYTC) held its 14th Annual Open House Bazaar 2022 at its Kinarut main campus on 9th October with the aim to raise RM200,000.00 for the Institution.
 
The event was officiated by its Guest of Honour, YB Datuk Seri Panglima Dr. Joachim Gunsalam, Deputy Chief Minister III cum Minister of Industrial Development of Sabah accompanied by Datuk Margaret Fung, Organising Chairperson, Tan Sri Bernard Giluk Dompok, Chairman of MYTC Board of Governors, Bro. James T.K., Assistant General of the Brothers of St. Gabriel (BSG) and Mr. Frederick Mah, Director of MYTC.
 
Fifty three (53) stalls were set up featuring varieties of food items, drinks, traditional delicacies, second hand goods, games, plants, as well as MYTC’s products from the welding and carpentry workshops made by the trainees. The visitors were also entertained by the performance from Male-efficient choir group, RH Band of ex-trainee, Songkotoun band and the clown to cheer up the children. Unduk Ngadau and Mr. Kaamatan were also present to enliven the atmosphere.
 
A special Academic Achievement Award initiated by YBhg Tan Sri Bernard Giluk Dompok was presented to seven Boarders for the completion of their Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination with good and above average results for the year 2019, 2020 and 2021. Each recipient is receiving a Certificate of Appreciation and RM500 cash reward.
 
The funds raised from this event would be utilized for the sustenance, maintenance and training expenses of the trainees under our care which is estimated at the cost of RM1,500 per trainee per month.
 
Montfort would like to record our appreciation and gratitude for the support from the volunteer stallholders, benefactors and friends of Montfort who have come forward to make this event memorable and a joyful occasion for all the visitors.
 
Currently, Montfort has 116 trainees undergoing their industrial training and residential care program at the main campus in Kinarut, and 42 Boarders at San Damiano Boys Hostel Kiulu and 31 Boarders at the St Mary’s Youth Hostel Sandakan under its Rural Development Programme.
