KOTA KINABALU: Australia’s Foreign Affairs Minister Penny Wong, who is currently on a working visit to Malaysia, travelled to Sabah this evening.
The Sabah-born Wong, who spent her early years in Kota Kinabalu before moving to Australia, later attended a cocktail reception on the occasion of her visit to Sabah.
State dignitories, including former Sabah Chief Ministers – Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak, Datuk Yong Teck Lee and several state ministers
were present at the reception.
Her father Francis Wong who is an architect by profession was a Councilor of KK Municipal Council during Salleh’s tenure as Sabah Chief Minister.
Earlier, Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Abdullah and Wong had a bilateral meeting in Kuala Lumpur that covered a wide range of topics concerning both countries as well as current regional and global issues.
Malaysia and Australia elevated their bilateral ties to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP) in January 2021. Australia also established a Comprehensive Partnership with Asean last year
