KOTA BELUD: Thousands of people from various races attended the Usukan State Constituency Aidilfitri Open House hosted by its assemblyman Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak at the Tun Said Community Hall, here on Sunday.
In what is seen as a true reflection of unity in diversity, opposition leaders, including UPKO vice president Datuk Ewon Benedick joined the visitors to celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
Salleh said political differences should not be made an obstacle to strengthening racial unity in the country.
He said although Malaysians had different religions and beliefs, they still believed in mutual respect amid the diversity.
“This is the uniqueness and advantage of Malaysia, unity in diversity,” said the former Sabah Chief Minister.
The open house was also attended by Sabah Deputy Chief Minister cum Sabah Umno Chief Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin and Kota Belud Umno leaders.
Hari Raya Aidilfitri is an annually celebrated event that marks the end of the Muslim fasting month, also known as Ramadan.
