KOTA KINABALU: Tan Sri T.C Goh, President of the Federation of Chinese Associations Malaysia (Huazong) has hoped that the soon-to-be formed Federal Cabinet will have a sufficient number of Chinese representatives, including ministers and deputy ministers.
He said, this is so that these Chinese representatives could better reflect or convey the views of the Chinese community to the government, besides assisting prime minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob to govern the country.
He added that such a move is also well in line with Ismail Sabri’s aspiration of promoting greater unity among Malaysians through the ‘Malaysian Family’ concept which he introduced during his maiden speech as the 9th prime minister of Malaysia.
Goh expressed this while commenting on Ismail Sabri’s statement that he would announce the line-up once Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah had consented to it, expected within this week.
He opined that consideration should be given to those ministers and deputy ministers in the previous Cabinet who had performed well.
“This includes Chinese representatives from Peninsular Malaysia and east Malaysia, so that they could continue to serve the nation and the people,” he said in a statement today.
He especially hoped that Chinese representatives could be appointed to such sectors like finance, education, culture, trade and industry and agriculture, as they are the key areas of concern for the Chinese community. He also believed they could better perform in these sectors.
Goh who is also President of the Federation of Chinese Associations Sabah (FCAS) had earlier also called for appointment of sufficient number of representatives from Sabah and Sarawak, to facilitate and accelerate developments in these two east Malaysian states.
He also proposed that the prime minister retain the Sabah Sarawak Affairs portfolio in the Prime Minister’s Department, and to appoint representatives from east Malaysia as its minister and deputy minister.
“This is to demonstrate the new Cabinet’s commitment to the affairs and developments of Sabah and Sarawak,” he said.
He also recognized that a majority of Malaysians, the Chinese community included, are placing a high hope in the soon-to-be-established new Cabinet, especially on the implementation of the “Malaysian Family” concept which was introduced by the prime minister himself.
“The formation of a truly professional, united, dynamic and hardworking Cabinet has become even more urgent and crucial amidst this trying time of a pandemic which has wreaked havoc to the nation and the people,” he concluded.
