KOTA KINABALU: The Malaysia-China Chamber of Commerce (MCCC) Sabah will lead a business delegation to Xiamen, China, on November 15, 2026, as part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen economic ties and expand business opportunities between Sabah and China.
The delegation will be led by MCCC Sabah President Datuk Dexter Lau, and will comprise chamber council members, Women Entrepreneurs Committee council members and other chamber members.
During the visit, the delegation will meet with representatives from Xiamen’s local government agencies, the Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), the International Chamber of Commerce and local businesses. Discussions will cover potential trade and economic partnerships, industrial development, investment opportunities and business networking, with a view to identifying areas of mutual interest and exploring opportunities for collaboration.
The discussions will focus on potential business collaborations, industrial development, investment prospects and opportunities for business networking, with the aim of identifying common interests and areas where businesses from both regions can complement one another.
MCCC Sabah WEC council member Liu Lirong will oversee the preparations and coordination of the visit, including liaison with the relevant parties and programme arrangements.
Originally from Xiamen, Liu has since made Sabah her home, where she also runs her business. Having experienced life and business in both places, she believes there is considerable room for closer collaboration between Xiamen and Sabah, particularly in trade, food processing, agriculture, tourism and investment.
Liu said she was honoured to be entrusted with coordinating the visit, adding that she hopes to use her connections and familiarity with both regions to bring businesses closer together.
“Having come from Xiamen and now living and doing business in Sabah, I feel a strong connection to both places. I hope to use this opportunity to build stronger links between the business communities, allowing companies from Xiamen to gain a better understanding of Sabah’s market potential while helping Sabah businesses explore opportunities in China,” she said.
She added that meaningful business engagement goes beyond courtesy visits, and that the ultimate goal is to help companies identify potential partners and translate initial discussions into tangible business opportunities.
Liu also hopes the visit will lay the groundwork for more regular business exchanges, corporate visits and business matching initiatives between the two regions.
MCCC Sabah hopes the initiative will further strengthen ties between government agencies, business associations and the private sector in Sabah and Xiamen, while creating more opportunities for Malaysian and Chinese businesses to explore mutually beneficial partnerships and long-term cooperation.
