KOTA KINABALU: My office has received a number of complaints from landowners regarding delays in compensation payments for land acquired for the Pan Borneo Highway and this morning I held a discussion with representatives of the Lands and Surveys Department regarding compensation for land acquired for the Pan Borneo Highway project.
I stressed that delays in compensation payments to affected landowners must be taken seriously and should not be allowed to continue unnecessarily.
The discussion focused on identifying the actual causes of the delays, resolving outstanding cases and determining the necessary steps to expedite payments.
The Pan Borneo Highway is an important development project for Sabah, but the rights and interests of affected landowners must also be properly addressed. Those who are entitled to compensation should not be made to wait longer than necessary.
The priority is to ensure that outstanding issues are addressed promptly and that the compensation process is carried out efficiently, fairly and without unnecessary delay.
