KOTA KINABALU: The leadership council of Pakatan Harapan (PH) Sabah has today unanimously called for the swift disbursement of the full 40 percent of Sabah’s revenue, as stipulated in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), preferably before the next general election (PRU).
While welcoming the recent announcement by the Prime Minister regarding the increase of the interim allocation to RM1.5 billion for Sabah, PH Sabah Chairman Datuk Mustapha Sakmud stated that PH Sabah aligns with the aspirations of the majority of the state’s populace who wish for the full 40% payment to be executed as outlined in the constitution.
“As the minister responsible, I have been urged by my colleagues in PH Sabah to ensure that the implementation is expedited.
“In this regard, I will continue to hold engagement sessions with both the state and federal governments, particularly the Ministry of Finance, to explore ways to accelerate the payment of this 40% entitlement,” he said.
Mustapha, who also serves as the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Sabah and Sarawak) and Chairman of the State Leadership Council (MPN) of PKR Sabah, made these remarks during a press conference held by PH Sabah today.
Also present were two deputy chairmen – Datuk Phoong Jin Zhe (Sabah DAP chief) and Datuk Lahirul Latigu (AMANAH).
Regarding the special allocation of RM1.5 billion, Mustapha expressed hope that it would be disbursed to Sabah as soon as possible.
“We hope that this allocation will be specifically used to address the fundamental infrastructure issues we are currently facing in the state, particularly concerning water supply, electricity, and roads that still do not meet the aspirations of the people of Sabah,” he stated.
