KENINGAU: A woman has died and seven others have been injured after a Toyota Hilux plunged into a ravine on Jalan Bingkor, Chanang Hill, here on Tuesday morning.
The incident occurred at 9:54 AM when the vehicle reportedly lost control while descending a hill, veering off the road and falling into the ravine.
A spokesperson from the Sabah Fire and Rescue Department’s Operations Center stated that they received an emergency call and dispatched nine personnel from the Keningau Fire and Rescue Station to the scene.
Upon arrival, the rescue team found that the accident involved eight victims.
“One woman who was trapped was successfully extricated by the fire team, while six other victims managed to exit the vehicle on their own before the rescuers arrived.
“Another female victim who was thrown from the vehicle was confirmed dead at the scene by personnel from the Ministry of Health Malaysia (KKM),” he said in a statement.
He added that the injured victims included a man in his 50s suffering from chest pain, a woman in her 40s with minor injuries, a 23-year-old woman with a broken arm, and a 10-year-old boy with shoulder pain.
Three other victims, whose identities have not yet been confirmed, were also injured.
He mentioned that all injured victims were transported to the hospital using the Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) vehicle and KKM ambulances for further treatment.
“The body of the deceased was handed over to the police for further action.
“The operation was fully concluded at 11:51 AM after the fire team ensured that there were no further dangers at the accident site,” he stated.
