KOTA KINABALU: Former federal ministers Rafizi Ramli and Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad are set to lead Parti Bersama Malaysia as they aim to establish a new political path for themselves and their supporters.
As reported by FMT, the founder and president of Parti Bersama Malaysia, Tan Gin Theam, officially transferred the party’s registration certificate to Rafizi and Nik Nazmi at the PJ Performing Arts Centre, in front of over 2,000 supporters this afternoon.
The choice to take control of an existing party comes less than a month after Rafizi, the MP for Pandan and former deputy president of PKR, expressed his desire to find the most effective way to advocate for reforms, whether within the party or externally.
Rafizi and Nik Nazmi, the MP for Setiawangsa, stepped down from their positions as economy minister and minister of natural resources and environmental sustainability, respectively, in May 2025.
This resignation followed Rafizi’s defeat in the PKR deputy president elections to Nurul Izzah Anwar. His running mate, Nik Nazmi, also lost his vice-presidency.
Following the PKR elections in May 2025, Rafizi’s relationship with the PKR leadership became strained, and he has since been openly critical of both the government and the party.
He had previously suggested the possibility of leaving PKR after the dissolution of Parliament to defend his seat in Pandan, and he even overcame an attempt to oust him as the Pandan PKR chief during the division’s annual general meeting in April.
Parti Bersama Malaysia, also known as Parti MU, was initially registered in Penang on December 2, 2016.
