Nizam suggests an extra parliamentary seat for Tawau – Nizam

TAWAU: Minister of Youth Development, Sports, and Creative Economy of Sabah, Datuk Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan, has proposed the expansion of parliamentary areas in Tawau due to a significant increase in the number of voters in the region.

He said that the current voter count, which exceeds 80,000, indicates the necessity to reassess the existing constituency division to ensure effective service delivery to the public.

He noted that this increase not only adds to the workload of elected representatives in terms of area coverage but also hampers their ability to engage more closely with voters at the grassroots level.

“The proposal to create two new parliamentary constituencies in Tawau is one of the measures that can be considered to ensure that each area receives more balanced attention,” he said.

He made these remarks at a press conference during the Aidilfitri Open House event at the Tawau Community Hall today.

Nizam, who is the Assemblyman for Apas, said that ideally, a parliamentary constituency should encompass around 40,000 to 50,000 voters to strengthen the relationship between elected representatives and the community.
