KOTA KINABALU: About 60 advisors, council members and members of the Malaysia–China Chamber of Commerce Sabah recently gathered for a distinctive and heartwarming Chinese New Year celebration, exchanging festive greetings and strengthening camaraderie in a relaxed and convivial setting, marking an auspicious beginning to the year ahead.
More than a festive reunion, the gathering served as a meaningful platform to deepen friendships, enhance connectivity and foster business collaboration — reflecting the Chamber’s enduring spirit of unity, mutual support and resource sharing.
The event was thoughtfully planned and organized by newly appointed Women Entrepreneurs Committee (WEC) Council Member Victoria Su, with generous support from member company MBS Tuning Sdn Bhd, which provided its exclusive premises as the venue and sponsored beverages. Members had the rare opportunity to step into a distinctive workshop — typically closed to the public — dedicated to servicing high-end and performance vehicles, offering a unique and memorable environment for networking and fellowship.
In her address, Victoria expressed her sincere appreciation for the trust placed in her as a newly appointed WEC council member. She extended special thanks to President Datuk Dexter Lau for his confidence and invaluable guidance throughout the preparation process, which ensured the event’s smooth and successful execution. She also conveyed her gratitude to the Chamber’s leadership and supporting member companies, noting that the collective effort and strong teamwork made the creative gathering possible.
Explaining the choice of venue, she shared that selecting MBS Tuning was a deliberate effort to challenge conventional perceptions of traditional automotive workshops.
“Many people associate workshops with noise and clutter. However, modern professional automotive facilities emphasize organization, management and customer experience. This space is comfortable, thoughtfully designed and truly resembles a ‘car enthusiasts’ club.’ We hope such a setting allows members to celebrate the New Year in a relaxed atmosphere, while appreciating the diversity, innovation and transformation of local enterprises,” she said.
The spacious, well-lit interior, advanced technical equipment and impressive showcase of high-performance vehicles created an ambiance that was both professional and stylish. Surrounded by premium automobiles, members admired the craftsmanship while exchanging business insights and exploring potential collaborations, adding vibrancy and a refreshing twist to the festive occasion.
The event was filled with laughter and animated conversations. Members shared industry updates and discussed emerging market trends, with several initiating preliminary discussions on prospective partnerships. Many were impressed by MBS Tuning’s professionalism and refined setting, remarking that “a workshop can indeed be this classy.” The unconventional venue not only broadened perspectives on traditional industries but also further strengthened bonds within the Chamber.
Victoria also took the opportunity to share that the Chamber will host its Annual Gala Dinner, “Timeless Elegance,” on April 25. The evening will present a captivating fusion of traditional Chinese cultural heritage and contemporary artistic expression, promising an immersive and memorable experience for attendees.
During the gathering, President Datuk Dexter Lau personally distributed red packets to attendees, sharing festive blessings and heightening the celebratory spirit.
Notably, he also took up the dragon head during the traditional dragon dance, symbolizing his commitment to continue leading the Chamber forward in the year ahead — navigating challenges with resilience and seizing opportunities with confidence and determination.
Among those present were Honorary Advisor Datuk George Lim; Kapitan Dr. Callee Tan Kai Lee; Vice Presidents Jacky Chin and Louis Su; Treasurer Shawn Tan; Director of Commercial Affairs Brian Ho; Deputy Director of Public Relations Yong Wei Hau; Council Members Benny Hon and Edward Yapp; Women Entrepreneurs Committee Deputy Chairperson Yee Tsai Yiew; Vice Chairpersons Helen Tsang and Janice Tan; Treasurer Mae Chai; Deputy Treasurer Fannie Chai; Council Members Fanny Khoo, Queenie Chang, Angeline Liu, Jerry Foo and Angelina Zhang Miao; MBS Tuning owners Ken Fon and Kevin Tan; Datuk Foo Ngee Kee; along with dozens of members.
