18 Flood Victims in Kemabong Successfully Rescued

TENOM: A total of 18 victims from three families were successfully rescued during the flood that hit Kampung Sugiang Lama, Kemabong, on Tuesday night.

According to a statement from the Sabah State Fire and Rescue Department, they received an emergency call at 9:51 PM before a team of four members from the Tenom Fire and Rescue Station was dispatched to the scene, located about 29 kilometers from the station.

Operation Commander, PBK II Azri bin Bidin, stated that the flood caused most of the houses and roads in the village to be submerged.

“The fire team conducted a rescue and evacuation operation. All 18 victims were safely brought out,” he said in a statement on Wednesday.

The victims included seven adult males, five adult females, one boy, and five girls.

He mentioned that the victims were gathered at the Surau Kampung Bagiang Lama before some of them were sent to the homes of nearby relatives.

However, efforts to send the victims to the Temporary Evacuation Center (PPS) at Dewan Ontoros Kemabong could not proceed due to the route on Jalan Kampung Kalamatoi being impassable due to flooding.

The operation, which also received cooperation from the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM), was fully concluded at 5:10 AM after the situation was under control.

The fire team then continued monitoring and rescue operations in other affected areas.
