245 flood victims relocated to PPS in Tawau

TAWAU: A total of 245 flood victims from 55 households were moved to the Temporary Evacuation Center (PPS) at the Tawau Sports Complex Multipurpose Hall early this morning, following six hours of continuous heavy rain in the area.

The Tawau District Disaster Management Committee announced that the PPS was opened at 3 AM to accommodate victims from several low-lying areas that were flooded.

Among those relocated, there were six elderly men and six elderly women, 70 adult men, and 73 adult women. Also moved were 35 boys, 42 girls, and seven infants, consisting of four boys and three girls.

The heavy rain that started yesterday evening caused several areas to be at risk of flooding. In response, the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) Tawau District initiated monitoring operations starting at 10:15 PM with a team of four officers and 17 other ranks (LLP).

Affected areas include Kampung Batu 2, which recorded a water level of 0.81 meters under alert conditions. Taman Setia recorded a level of 0.25 meters, while Jalan Sin On and Taman Villa reported water levels of 0.30 meters and are still under control.

In Batu 9, the water level was recorded at 0.70 meters, and that area was reported to be flooded.

At 1:13 AM, 12 LLP members were involved in relocating victims from Kampung Tanjung Batu to safer areas, with the operation fully concluding at 2:47 AM.

The water levels in Sungai Kinabutan Kecil, Sungai Tawau, and Sungai Saddani are reported to be under control so far, and no villages have been reported to be cut off.
