Darell Leiking Affirms Warisan’s Stance: Sabah Needs Local Leadership

KOTA KINABALU: The Warisan Party reaffirms its consistent stance, emphasising that Sabah must be governed by a local party that has the people’s mandate.

This statement was made following claims from some parties that the party has changed its position.

Warisan’s Deputy President, Darell Leiking, stated that this approach does not mean rejecting political cooperation but aims to restore balance within the Federation of Malaysia, in line with the original principles of Malaysia’s establishment – equal partnership between Sabah, Sarawak, and the Peninsula.

“Like GPS in Sarawak, we differentiate between state administration and cooperation at the federal level.

“At the state level, leadership must come from local parties; at the federal level, Warisan is ready to cooperate,” he said in a statement on Sunday.

Leiking emphasised that Sabah has long been affected by national decisions made without state involvement, leading to development gaps and erosion of rights under the Malaysia Agreement.

Warisan’s stance, he said, is neither new nor extreme but rather firm, principled, and in line with Sarawak’s leadership model.

He also expressed appreciation to the media for accurately and fairly reporting the party’s statements, highlighting the importance of factual reporting to ensure a healthy public discourse.

Warisan reiterates its position: Sabah’s administration by local leadership, along with principled cooperation at the federal level, for a fairer and more equitable Malaysia.
