LIBARAN: The Information Chief of BNCom Libaran, Shariff Ismarhafiz Sh Abd Rahman, emphasised that the dissolution of the Sabah State Assembly (DUN) should serve as a platform for the people to assess the honesty and actual performance of the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) government, rather than being misled by figures and success slogans.
He questioned how GRS deserves a second chance when the reality of life for the people of Sabah is still plagued by the highest unemployment rate in the country.
“The GRS government can boast about supposedly achieving 94 percent success in implementing the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) initiative, but the people live with a more painful figure, as Sabah’s unemployment rate now reaches 7.7 percent, the highest in Malaysia and more than double the national average,” he said in a statement on Tuesday.
He noted that despite various promotions and success videos, the truth is that Sabah’s youth continue to struggle, with many graduates forced to take part-time jobs, become e-hailing drivers, or migrate to the Peninsular in search of a livelihood.
“If this is the result of the claimed 94 percent success, then Sabah is actually celebrating 94 percent moral and intellectual failure of a government,” he said.
Shariff Ismarhafiz remarked that GRS is more adept at managing perceptions than addressing the real issues faced by the people, as labor development policies are still not aligned with industry needs, and high-value investments have failed to be consistently attracted.
He also described the current situation in Sabah as ‘poverty of opportunity,’ where a state rich in resources is poor in job opportunities and future prospects.
