KOTA KINABALU: Former state player Gundohing Henry Saimpon has proposed to the Sabah Football Association (SAFA) the creation of a Sabah Football League or the reintroduction of the Borneo Cup.
He stated that this initiative would not only enhance the football scene in Sabah but also uncover more local talents.
Additionally, he mentioned that it would provide a ‘second chance’ for Sabah FC players who have been sidelined to continue their careers in football.
“As seen in the past, many of our players, including those who brought glory to Sabah by winning the Premier League in 2019, have been left struggling after the team underwent significant restructuring.
“They have had to seek opportunities with other teams, but sadly, some players have seen their careers halted in the Malaysian League,” he said.
Henry, who is also the vice president of KDM, made these remarks after officiating the 11-a-side veteran football carnival at the Tamparuli Town Field on Sunday.
Also present were KDM Pantai Dalit Coordinator Gundohing Jaesman Gipin, Kiulu KDM Vice Chief Gundohing Joluin Jairuh, Jasini Yukin, and PDM Pukak Chief John Vest.
