KOTA KINABALU: I gather that a certain population in Sabah believes that Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) will again attain the majority and confidence to helm the State Government.
However, many segments of the population feel a sense of disappointment or sadness about the possibility that the current administration will continue.
This incomprehensible sense of insecurity engulfed the masses, as it would affect their lives as they head into the future. Whichever heir gained the majority would inherit a poisoned chalice.
Did these ageing Sabah politicians listen to the people?
The new administration will need to be scrutinised on two issues: first, the basic necessities such as water, electricity, and roads need to be improved immediately.
The recent flooding in Penampang has again caught the authorities off guard, resulting in loss of lives and roads being cut off. The responses by the public and political groups are commendable; it transcends beyond political affiliation, and one may see it as a sign of a wake-up call.
We take each other as a community.
The east coast of Sabah was not spared, as the power tower collapsed in Telupid, affecting its population. They were further compounded by water cuts, resulting in a standstill in Sandakan without clean water for days. Such inconveniences in both events in the days before resulted in damages racking up into the millions of ringgit.
Finally, the wood in the forest is to eradicate the corrupt practices that seemingly plague the current administration, as many have been exposed on social media.
The populace’s confidence wanes like a losing tide by the ocean. It exposes so many inconsistencies borne on the receding tide. The infighting among the coalition does not help and may ultimately lead to its own destruction. This has occurred many times in the history of the world; without a clear path, objectives, and unity, it is bound to fail.
A word of thanks to the unsung heroes who tirelessly work behind the scenes; we appreciate your contribution. A moment of remembrance to the families that lost their loved ones; may their souls rest in peace.
