KOTA BELUD: Prospective KDM candidate for the Kadamaian state constituency, Josely Taising, has proposed that the Sabah government follow in the Sarawak government’s footsteps to offer free education to students pursuing tertiary education in that state starting next year.
He said that this initiative is crucial as a demonstration of the government’s commitment and concern for the educational interests of Sabah’s children.
According to Josely, this can be achieved by offering free higher education at the university owned by the Sabah Foundation, namely the Universiti College Sabah Foundation (UCSF).
“As previously announced, the state’s financial position is becoming increasingly robust. Therefore, I personally believe this suggestion should be considered by the Sabah government.
“If Sarawak can provide free higher education at four universities… there is no reason why the Sabah government cannot offer it at UCSF,” he said in his latest social media post.
Josely commented on a news report regarding the Sarawak government’s commitment to spend nearly RM600 million to implement this free higher education initiative.
However, this initiative is limited to students studying at Universiti Teknologi Sarawak,
Curtin University Malaysia, Swinburne University Sarawak, and i-CATS University College.
