KOTA KINABALU: Datuk Christina Liew, the State Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Environment, has lost her position as the PKR Kota Kinabalu division chief.
In a closely contested election, Liew was defeated by her opponent, Lee Li Mei, who received 1,381 votes, while Liew managed to secure only 1,157 votes.
In another election, Sazalye Donol Abdullah, the Secretary of PKR Sabah, was also unsuccessful in his bid for leadership in the Kota Marudu branch. He was outperformed by Zaini Jatil, the head of the Sabah Youth Justice Movement (AMK), who won with 1,031 votes against Sazalye’s 548 in a four-way contest.
The other candidates, Jolius Majawai and Jasmon Jaji, received 648 and 182 votes, respectively, from a total of 2,405 votes cast.
On a positive note, Datuk Mustapha Sakmud, Chairman of the Sabah PKR State Leadership Council (MPN), successfully retained his position as the head of the Kota Belud branch in a three-way race.
The Deputy Minister of Higher Education and MP for Sepanggar garnered 1,405 votes, significantly outpacing his rivals, Madeli @ Modily Bangali, who received 100 votes, and Azhrie Jenaim, who secured just 67 votes.
Additionally, Datuk Peto Galim, the Assistant Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food Industry of Sabah, successfully defended his role in the Sepanggar branch election, receiving 607 votes to defeat his challenger, Joseph Linggian @ Joseph Chong, who received only 178 votes.
Former MPN Sabah Chairman, Datuk Dr Sangkar Rasam, also maintained his leadership of the Keningau branch, achieving 1,720 votes against his brother Antakor Rasam, who received 295 votes.
In Pensiangan, Datin Rufinah Pengeran, the Deputy Chief of Women’s Justice in Sabah and wife of Sangkar, has taken over the branch leadership from her nephew, Raymond Ahuar.
