SANDAKAN: Since 2020, the state of Sabah, under the administration of GRS, has not demonstrated any reduction in the unemployment rate, which remains at 7.7% over the past five years.
Libaran MP, Datuk Suhaimi Haji Nasir, stated that this information is based on reports obtained from the Department of Statistics.
“The unemployment rate in Malaysia for 2024 has decreased to 3.2%. However, Sabah has remained stagnant at 7.7% since 2020.
“This clearly indicates that the Sabah state government under GRS has not undertaken any efforts to reduce the unemployment rate,” he remarked.
He made these comments in the Dewan Rakyat recently.
Suhaimi, who is also the Sabah UMNO Information Chief emphasised that empowering the Bumiputera agenda is crucial to ensure that young people, particularly among the Bumiputera, have broader access to job opportunities.
“In this era of globalisation and rapid economic change, a more strategic approach is necessary to ensure the sustainability and effectiveness of this agenda,” he added.
Suhaimi also suggested that the government enhance TVET initiatives to support the growth of innovation and technology-based industries that benefit the youth.
“The government must also intensify the implementation of entrepreneurship programs that assist young people in the fields of business and small and medium enterprises (SMEs),” he asserted.
At the same time, Suhaimi pointed out that the annual allocations provided by the federal government have not been utilised effectively by the GRS government for the benefit of the people of Sabah, but rather for personal interests.
“The federal and Sabah state governments should prioritise the improvement of basic infrastructure such as roads, water supply, and electricity.
“However, a recurring question is whether the efforts taken by the federal government are being effectively translated into tangible benefits,” Suhaimi said.
