LAHAD DATU: The Ramadan Charity Programme, organised by the Community Development Leaders Unit (UPPM) initiative, is recognised as a crucial platform for assisting underprivileged and marginalised communities in a timely manner.
Datuk Awang Kadin Tang, the Director of UPPM, emphasised the importance of this initiative in fostering strong partnerships with non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and extending aid to more vulnerable communities during the holy month of Ramadan.
He highlighted the positive influence of this programme on local communities, bringing happiness to those in need, particularly with the Ramadan and Syawal approaches.
“We are very grateful that the Ramadan Charity Programme has received an overwhelming response from the public at every location. This shows that the iftar tour program is eagerly anticipated by all segments of society throughout the state.
“Every year during Ramadan, many volunteers, NGOs, and corporate entities participate in their corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes to contribute and help those in need. We welcome and encourage more people to come forward and assist those who require support,” he said at the Iftar event in Lahad Datu yesterday.
Regarding developments, Awang Kadin said that besides the iftar event, they are collaborating with several corporate companies, including Sabah Softwood Berhad, to demonstrate the involvement of government-linked companies (GLCs) in this meaningful programme.
“We are confident that more GLC companies will participate in UPPM’s Ramadan Charity Tour throughout the state. What is important is their sense of responsibility to go out and help those who are less fortunate.
“UPPM has also established a partnership with Kim Teck Cheong Consolidated Berhad to be the main contributor to the nationwide iftar programme,” explained Awang Kadin.
Meanwhile, the Managing Director of Kim Teck Cheong Consolidated Berhad, Datuk Dexter Lau, said that their involvement in the Charity Iftar Programme with UPPM Sabah is part of an effort to assist the less fortunate in the state.
“Especially in the current situation, Indeed, all parties need to come together to help them; it is not only the responsibility of the government, but everyone has their own role to play in assisting the less fortunate.
“In addition to the iftar programme, we also have the opportunity to shop for new clothes with underprivileged children in preparation for the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration,” said Dexter.
During the event, 50 less fortunate individuals received contributions of food baskets and financial aid in preparation for the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration.
Also present were Kunak assemblyman Datuk Norazlinah Arif, District Officer of Lahad Datu, Firuz Idzualdeen Mohd Dzul, and the District Police Chief of Lahad Datu, ACP Dr. Rohan Shah Ahmad.
