KOTA KINABALU: Traders in Sabah are reminded not to take advantage of raising prices following the two percent increase in sales and service tax (SST), which takes effect today.
President of the West Coast Sabah Consumer Association, David Chan, said this is important to ensure that the increase in SST does not burden consumers.
He noted that after the COVID-19 pandemic, the market pattern for goods has changed as people are experiencing financial constraints.
“People are now very selective in buying food and cheaper products due to financial constraints,” he said in a statement today.
Therefore, David urges traders to consider not taking advantage of raising food prices and consumer products unreasonably just because of the 2% increase in SST.
A random survey in Menggatal town reveals that there are several restaurants that have increased the price of Chinese tea to RM1.50 starting yesterday.
