KDM eyeing to team up with PH to face next state elections ?

KOTA KINABALU: Considering the rejection of Parti Warisan Sabah’s (Warisan) invitation to their recent Annual General Meeting as an indication, it is highly probable that Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat (KDM) is considering collaborating with other political parties, particularly Pakatan Harapan (PH) Sabah.

Sabah political analyst Mohd Zaki Harry Susanto said the prediction was also based on the decision of the KDM Supreme Council Members’ Meeting which postponed the decision regarding political coalition collaborations in preparation for the forthcoming state elections (PRN), which might occur sooner than expected.

KDM information chief, Dr Oswald Aisat Igau, recently stated that the party has received numerous offers and it is necessary to thoroughly examine them.

Previously, KDM was reported to be collaborating with Warisan and Barisan Nasional (BN) for the upcoming PRN.

However, only BN sent a representative to Warisan’s Annual General Meeting, despite KDM being invited.

The meeting was officiated by Warisan president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal.

Zaki believes that KDM under the leadership of Datuk Peter Anthony is formulating the best strategy by considering all perspectives, including input from grassroots leaders.

He mentioned that perhaps the grassroots supporters and party leaders want KDM to contest for more seats in the next PRN.

Despite being viewed as a small party by some, Zaki predicts that KDM will present a strong challenge to GRS, particularly in areas where the majority of voters belong to the KDM community.

This includes the state constituencies of Malalap, Kemabung, Sook, Tulid, Tandek, Matunggong, Bandau, and Pitas.

Additionally, Zaki foresees KDM competing in Limbahau, Telupid, Kundasang, Kiulu, Tamparuli, and various other seats in the interior of Sabah.

“This is merely a prediction and believes that KDM will soon decide on a political alliance partner to face the PRN,” he said, adding that “anything is possible in politics”.
