KOTA KINABALU: Christmas carols such as “Jingle Bells” and “Holy Night” hold significant meaning for the Christian community and banning these songs would be a disrespectful act, said former Petagas assemblyman Datuk James Ligunjang.
As enshrined in the Federal Constitution, he said it is crucial to uphold the rights of individuals to practice their faith without discrimination and to respect religious freedom.

“With our diverse society, it is paramount that we strive for harmony and mutual respect among different religious groups,” he said in his latest social media posting.
Therefore, Lingunjang said it is important to avoid any actions that may create religious tension during celebrations.
“Instead, we should focus on embracing diversity and promoting inclusivity. In doing so, Malaysia can flourish as a united nation, where people from various backgrounds come together during religious festivities,” he added.
He stressed that respecting religious freedom means refraining from any actions that may disrespect a specific religious community.
“Let us work towards harmony and unity, regardless of our religious beliefs, as we strive for a promising future for our nation,” he said.
