Anwar etched in history as the first PM to attend Kaamatan, vowed to take immediate steps to address various problems facing Sabah

PENAMPANG:: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim etched in history as the first Prime Minister to attend the state-level Kaamatan Festival at Hongkod Koisaan, near here today.

As expected, Anwar’s presence lived up to expectations of a national leader of all races. 

Speaking at the event, Anwar said the unity government was serious about solving various problems facing the people of the state, including water issues. 

Therefore, a high-level meeting with central and state governments will be held tomorrow to find the best solution for Sabah’s water problems, he said. 

He further said that immediate steps have been taken to accelerate the implementation of the Pan-Borneo Highway Project. 

On Kaamatan, Anwar said the festival is a folk festival and each festival is a community celebration.

Anwar also assured to provide RM1 million in aid to carry out KDCA activities.

“I am also waiting for the completion of the proposal/working paper for the establishment of KDM University,” he said.

He said the unity government has always been committed to complying with the 1963 Malaysian Agreement.

The closing ceremony of the state-level Kaamatan celebration was graced by the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sabah Tun Juhar Mahiruddin.

Also present were Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor and Huguan Siou (Paramount Leader) Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan.
