KUALA LUMPUR: Close cooperation from the public, both individuals and civil society organisations (CSOs), is crucial towards boosting the government and the police efforts in preventing crime, and maintaining peace and order in the country.
Acknowledging this were both Tan Sri T.C Goh, President of The Federation of Chinese Associations Malaysia (Huazong), and its Treasurer-general, Tan Sri Tan Kean Soon, after receiving their letters of appointment, as the chairman of Malaysia Crime Prevention Foundation (MCPF), for Sabah and Federal Territory Kuala Lumpur branch, respectively, from the Home Affairs Minister, Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, here on last Saturday. The said ceremony was held in the Sultan Ahmad Shah Auditorium, at the Royal Malaysian Police Academy (Pulapol), in Cheras.
They said, when it comes to crime prevention, it wouldn’t be sufficient to solely depend on the government or the police force to fight crimes, as the scope of criminal activities is far and wide.
They were thus convinced that a close cooperation from the public could significantly boost the police’s efforts in crime prevention, and ultimately keeping our nation safe and peaceful.
They said, this is also in line with the noble objectives of MCPF, which since its inception in 1993, has been dedicatedly promoting awareness on crime prevention and rehabilitation of offenders at all times.
Meanwhile, Goh who is also President of the Federation of Chinese Associations Sabah (FCAS) also expressed concern over the far-reaching impact of Covid-19 pandemic, which he said has caused some desperate individuals to fall into the traps of some crime syndicates, and got themselves involved in crime activities.
He thus said MCPF would work closely with the police to create public awareness, to prevent the public from falling prey to the crime syndicates.
“We believe MCPF and its members could act as coordinators for the Police or the enforcement agencies, and as an effective ‘bridge’ between the enforcement agencies and the people,” he said this in a statement issued today.
