KOTA MARUDU: Sabah’s economic performance and the implementation of development programmes show that the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) administration under Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor has not failed, contrary to critics’ claims, a Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah leader said.
Gagasan Rakyat Tandek Coordinating Chief Datuk Dr Janathan Kandok said the state government’s performance should be assessed using reliable data, its financial position and the benefits development brings to the people.
“Development figures do not lie. The government must be judged on facts and socioeconomic impact, not political rhetoric ahead of an election,” he said.
Janathan, who is also chairman of the Kota Marudu Economic Development Organisation (PERKOM), said the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) Roadmap had strengthened the state’s participation in strategic sectors, particularly the oil and gas industry.
He said SMJ Energy Sdn Bhd had acquired interests in several projects, including the Semarang Field, SAMUR and PFLNG 3, as well as established commercial cooperation with PETRONAS.
According to him, growth in annual revenue collection and the state’s cash reserves also reflected Sabah’s increasingly strong fiscal position, countering claims of poor government financial management.
He said the higher revenue had enabled programmes such as Rumah Mesra SMJ, SYUKUR cash assistance, human capital development sponsorships and improvements to basic facilities.
Janathan said communities in Kota Marudu and rural areas had also benefited from these development initiatives.
He urged all parties to assess the GRS administration based on policy outcomes and the well-being of the people, rather than political perceptions.
