KOTA KINABALU: The Soliditary Gathering With Sabah People slated for December 18, is anticipated to serve as a significant platform for STAR Sabah to announce its new political direction and preparations for the 16th General Election (GE16).
STAR Sabah Deputy President Datuk Lawrence Gimbang stated that following current political developments reflecting the majority’s desire to see local parties unite, the gathering is expected to focus on grassroots voices, particularly regarding STAR Sabah leadership’s stance on the party’s future direction.
He said STAR Sabah President Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan is expected to officiate the solidarity gathering, which will be held at the KDCA Hall in Penampang.
“Currently, many are questioning STAR Sabah’s true direction following the recent state election.
“These questions will be answered at the gathering, where the STAR president will deliver an important address and clarify STAR Sabah’s political direction,” he said
Lawrence was asked to comment on the outcomes of the STAR Sabah Solidarity Tour and Soliditary Gathering With Sabah People organising committee meeting at Sokid Villa today.
Also present were STAR Sabah Secretary-General and Dewan Negara Member Datuk Edward Linggu and senior party leader Datuk Kalakau Untol.
Lawrence explained that the solidarity gathering, among others, aims to raise awareness about Sabah’s rights, the 1963 Malaysia Agreement, and the importance of balanced development.
It also seeks to strengthen cooperation with local parties sharing interests in advancing Sabah’s future.
Previously, there were reports linking cooperation among STAR Sabah, Warisan Party, and the Democratic Prosperity Party (KDM) for the upcoming general election.
The matter gained traction following the joint appearance of the three local party presidents in Sabah—Datuk Seri Dr. Jeffrey Kitingan (STAR Sabah), Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal (Warisan), and Priscella Peter (KDM)—at the Batu Sumpah in Keningau during the Malaysia Day celebration on Sept 16.
It is understood that several local party leaders who align with STAR Sabah’s mission will be invited to attend the solidarity gathering.
