KOTA KINABALU: The Sook Sports Complex construction proposal earned Sabah state cabinet approval in 2024, driven by the compelling advocacy and strategic initiative of Datuk Ellron Angin during his tenure as Sook assemblyman and Sabah Minister of Youth and Sports.
According to official records, on 25 April 2025, Ellron announced the state government’s approval of additional funding allocation for the Sook Sports Complex construction project.
Documentation confirms that the Sabah state government serves as the funding provider and project implementer.
On 28 April 2025, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor further endorsed the sports complex as a key development initiative for Sook.
Based on preliminary planning, the Sook Sports Complex construction project is projected for completion by 2029.
Meanwhile, the state Assistant Minister of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation Jordan Jude Ellron, in his recent visit to Sook, expressed his conviction that the development of the Sook Sports Complex will unlock tremendous opportunities for local residents, particularly young people, to actively engage in sports and athletic pursuits.
According to him, this RM15 million sports complex possesses significant potential to serve as a premier venue for hosting diverse sporting activities and programs throughout the area.
Jordan emphasised that constructing this sports complex represents a genuine commitment by the state government to advance sports development, including within the Sook constituency, while simultaneously serving as a platform to identify and nurture emerging athletic talent.
He also acknowledged the valuable contributions of the former State Minister of Youth and Sports (Ellron), who laid the groundwork for this sports complex development, and expressed optimism that the long-held aspirations of the Sook community will become reality by 2029.
