PCSM organizes prostate cancer awareness program

KOTA KINABALU: The Prostate Cancer Society Malaysia (PCSM) will be organising a prostate cancer awareness programme on September 19 as an effort to raise awareness among the public, especially men, about the importance of early detection of the disease.

The program, which will take place at Ujana Tropika Rimba Park and Por Kee Restaurant, Taman Fortuna, is organised in collaboration with Gleneagles, Rotary Club of Kota Kinabalu (RCKK) and Queen Elizabeth Hospital 1 (QEH1).

Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, celebrated every September, aims to increase public understanding of the disease.

Participants are scheduled to arrive at 5.30am before a brief briefing is given at 6am, followed by a walking activity around the park at 6.15am wearing PCSM T-shirts.

At 7.15am, the event continued with opening remarks by the PCSM Chairman and Gleneagles Chief Operating Officer (COO), before a symbolic session of holding the PCSM banner and taking a group photo at 7.35am.

A dance performance by the Rimba Tropika Line Dance Group at 7.45 am also enlivened the program before the men’s health talk session began at 8 am.

Representatives from Gleneagles will deliver a talk titled ‘Prostate Cancer: Early Detection Saves Lives’, while representatives from QEH1 will discuss the topic ’10 Myths About Prostate Cancer’.

The event then continued at Por Kee Restaurant, Taman Fortuna, starting at 9.45am with a friendly session and breakfast and lunch which was also enlivened by a moon cake celebration.
