UNITY AMONG SABAH LEADERS ESSENTIAL TO REALISING MA63 RIGHTS, SAYS ANAK NEGERI PRESIDENT
KOTA KINABALU: Parti Kerjasama Anak Negeri (Anak Negeri) President Datuk Henrynus Amin has strongly voiced support for recent statements made by Sabah UMNO Treasurer Datuk Seri Salleh Said Keruak, emphasising that the protection of Sabah’s rights and interests must transcend political divides.
Henrynus noted that Salleh’s stance underscores a vital truth: when national political parties and their leaders choose to genuinely stand with Sabahans, national decision-makers listen.
History has proven that localised pressures championed through national platforms can yield monumental results for the state.
”The formation of the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) on illegal immigrants in Sabah (Projek IC) is a prime historical example. It was initiated by PBS, then a BN component party, but made possible through the backing of Sabah UMNO, where leaders like former Chief Minister Tun Musa Aman successfully engineered and advocated for the RCI to be adopted by the Barisan Nasional federal leadership,” said Henrynus.
He added that Salleh’s recent comments accurately reflect a shared, cross-party consensus among Sabah’s political leadership—spanning both state-based and national-based platforms—that local autonomy and regional dignity are non-negotiable.
”Political stability and enduring national unity can only be authentically achieved if the rights of Sabahans under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) are fully realised and respected.
”Peninsular-centric narratives or single-demographic formulas do not fit Sabah’s multi-ethnic reality. All Sabah leaders must continue to speak with one voice to ensure our rights are protected within the federation.”
Anak Negeri calls upon all leaders across the political spectrum in Sabah to rally behind the core tenets of the “Sabah Agenda”, ensuring that state rights, socio-economic development, and the true spirit of partnership under MA63 remain at the forefront of national politics.
