KOTA KINABALU: Foreign countries are urged to reassess their travel advisories for the Eastern Sabah Security Zone (ESS Zone) based on the current security situation and objective evaluations, thereby moving away from outdated perceptions of the East Coast of Sabah.
The Commander of the Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCOM), DCP Datuk Victor Sanjos, stated that the current level of security can be personally assessed by international delegations through the Joint Security Survey Program for Foreign Representatives to the ESS Zone 2026, which invites ambassadors, high commissioners, and country representatives to visit the waters of the East Coast of Sabah and several key locations.
He noted that the peace enjoyed in the area is a result of the continuous commitment of the Malaysian Government through the Ministry of Home Affairs, particularly ESSCOM, along with other security agencies.
This situation allows for safe movement in the waters, tourism islands to continue receiving visitors, and coastal communities to carry out their daily activities in a peaceful environment.
Victor mentioned that the stable environment also boosts the confidence of local communities and provides assurance to tourists and investors.
This level of security supports conservation efforts, including the Turtle Conservation Program on Selingan Island, as well as the development of ecotourism, blue economy, community enterprises, and sustainable development initiatives under the Sabah Maju Jaya agenda.
He emphasized that Malaysia remains committed to fostering cooperation with partner countries to strengthen regional security, protect the shared maritime environment, and promote sustainable economic development that benefits future generations.
