KOTA KINABALU: The DESA group seeks to strengthen strategic cooperation with the Sabah Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food Industry in efforts to enhance the development of the agriculture, livestock, and agro-food industries in the state.
The Chairman of the DESA group, Tan Sri Liew Yun Fah, stated that the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food Industry Sabah, Datuk Jamawi Jaafar, has expressed agreement to collaborate with DESA, particularly in agriculture and livestock, as well as other related sectors.
He noted that the willingness of both parties to establish this partnership is a positive development that could pave the way for planning and implementing more initiatives in the sector.
“DESA hopes for a closer collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, especially in agriculture, livestock, and other matters related to the agricultural sector,” he said.
Liew mentioned that as a state-owned enterprise, DESA is ready to take a more active role in supporting the Sabah government’s efforts to develop the agriculture and livestock sectors as vital components of the state’s economy.
He added that the strategic partnership between DESA and the ministry could also be utilized to identify areas with potential for development, particularly those that can strengthen the production chain and the agro-food industry in Sabah.
He emphasized that this effort is crucial not only for the development of the agriculture sector but also for strengthening the state’s food production ecosystem and creating opportunities for related economic activities.
A more structured collaboration between the government and state-owned enterprises is also seen as a way to create synergy in the development of the sector, especially in ensuring that the agricultural and livestock potential of Sabah can be fully utilized.
