PENAMPANG – In a significant boost for the local political landscape, several senior political leaders from the Penampang parliamentary constituency, led by former Assemblyman Datuk James Ligunjang JP, have officially joined Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (PGRS).
The group that includes Datuk Edmund Doudilim,a lawyer and former Deputy Chairman of USNO, Dr Tan Jun Kwang, an architect and a PhD graduate,Wilson Chang, a lawyer, Datuk Aloysius Mobijin, a former Tawau Deputy OCPD and Chairman of Veteran Police Association of Sabah,Frederick Francis Fung, a retired senior government servant, Anwar Syed Shariff Abdullah,a lawyer, TS Gary Chang,an Engineer and Albert Doudilim,former Ketua Cabang PKR, submitted their membership application forms to the PGRS Moyog Division Chairman, Datuk Mandela Malakun witnessed by Datuk Steven Jimbangan,PGRS Kepayan Division Chairman, during a brief ceremony in ITCC Penampang today.
When asked about his decision to join the party, Datuk James Ligunjang JP explained that his alignment with the current administration is not new, but rather a formalisation of a long-standing belief.
He noted that while he has been a staunch supporter of the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) coalition since its inception, he had remained unaffiliated with any specific component party until now.
“We are joining PGRS to actively assist in strengthening the party’s grassroots presence and, by extension, the GRS coalition as a whole,” Datuk James stated.
“Our goal is to ensure a unified front that can effectively serve the interests of the people of Sabah.” he added.
He further commended the GRS administration under the leadership of Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji bin Hj Noor. He pointed out that the government has demonstrated a clear commitment to progress, delivering numerous development projects that have benefited both urban and rural communities across the state.
“The current leadership has served the people well. The tangible progress we see today is why this administration deserves our full support and why we have chosen PGRS as our political home,” he added.
The entry of these veteran leaders is expected to bolster PGRS’s influence in the Penampang parliamentary constituency as the party continues to expand its reach ahead of future political developments.
