KOTA KINABALU: Police are searching for a man to assist in the investigation of the murder of a 34-year-old foreigner at a construction site behind a vehicle showroom in Iramanis early yesterday morning.
The Acting District Police Chief of Kota Kinabalu, Supt. Syed Lot Syed Ab Rahman, stated that the police received information about the incident at 1:40 AM, with a police report filed at 2:23 AM.
Initial investigations revealed that the victim had allegedly gone out for drinks with the suspect in Penampang before returning to the workers’ quarters around 11 PM.
“A dispute is believed to have occurred due to a misunderstanding while both were intoxicated.
“The victim reportedly struck the suspect with a wooden stick before the suspect retaliated by stabbing the victim four times with a vegetable knife,” he said in a statement.
He mentioned that the suspect is believed to have fled the scene after the incident, while the victim was found in a drainage hole near the location.
The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, and efforts to locate the suspect and the weapon used are ongoing.
