KOTA KINABALU: Datuk Mustapha Sakmud, Chairman of Pakatan Harapan (PH) Sabah, stated that the reception PH has received from the people of Johor has been encouraging so far.
He expressed confidence that voters in the state are making thoughtful assessments of the government’s performance, particularly at the federal level, after more than three years in office.
According to him, the federal government has played a significant role in supporting Johor’s state administration in carrying out development and social initiatives.
“We hope these accomplishments highlight to Johor’s electorate the Madani government’s genuine commitment to advancing and delivering projects that serve the public interest,” he remarked.
Mustapha shared these views with reporters after the launching of the Sukaneka Madani Program for Youth at the Pomotodon Community Hall in Inanam today.
On the prospects of PH in the upcoming Johor state election (PRN), Mustapha—who also serves as Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Sabah and Sarawak)—noted that it is still premature to forecast results.
“In any case, we trust the people of Johor to make informed decisions about their state leadership,” he said.
He emphasized the importance of using the election period to present party platforms and clearly communicate each party’s vision and policy goals to voters.
“We should avoid turning this into a platform for personal attacks or raising sensitive topics, particularly those related to race, religion, and royalty (3R),” he added.
“Let’s focus on constructive campaigning—highlighting our candidates’ qualifications, their proposed plans, and how these will benefit the communities they aim to serve.”
On the Sukaneka Madani event for youth—inaugurated today in the Sepanggar parliamentary constituency—Mustapha said his team intends to broaden the program’s reach, especially within the area he represents.
As the Member of Parliament for Sepanggar, he explained that the initiative aims to promote unity among races, nurture positive values such as goodwill and mutual respect, and strengthen community bonds across different social groups.
