Hajiji advises residents of the east coast of Sabah to remain calm

KOTA KINABALU: The Chief Minister of Sabah, Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor, has urged residents in Tawau, Semporna, Kunak, and Lahad Datu to stay calm and adhere to the instructions from the authorities following the tsunami warning issued after a strong earthquake in Mindanao, Philippines this morning.

He stated that the District Disaster Management Committee (JPBD) in the affected areas has been activated to monitor and manage the current situation.

According to him, the state government, through the State Disaster Operation Control Centre, is also closely monitoring the developments.

“It is crucial for the public to remain calm and consistently follow the directives from the authorities,” he said in a statement today.

Previously, MetMalaysia reported that tsunami waves of up to 0.4 meters are expected to hit several coastal areas on the east coast of Sabah between 10:30 AM and 12:00 PM.
